Tactless Twit of the Day: Polly Toynbee

June 6, 2009

I am twittered

Sorry is the easiest word to Twit

I was going to make a sly little note about Polly Toynbee’s extraordinarily tactless opening to her front-page Guardian op-ed about James Purnell and Gordon Brown, but it seems like the Twitterati have been at it before me.

Never mind. Let it be said: Though she twittered her remorse, the woman is a AAA twit. Let’s have that opening in full, shall we?

Another engine breaks away from Gordon Brown’s fuselage, and the damage done looks set to bring him crashing out of the sky. Even if he can judder on, the injury done will diminish him further. Which other engines may now break away too? Those who would bring him down say the prime minister is beyond repair. The party faces a terrible choice it can no longer avoid.

By the way, investigators still don’t know where Air France 447 went down or why.

As I say, she’s twittered an apology:

“My sincere apologies for ‘plane crash’ Gordon Brown analogy in Guardian piece yesterday. Utterly crass and insensitive, mea culpa.”

At least she sounds like she means it, right?
