Israeli food products to be labelled properly at last?

June 8, 2009

Well, perhaps.

I’ll bet you also didn’t know that Israeli food exporters have been benefiting for years from violating a trade agreement with the UK which established tariff free market access for good produced within Israel’s 1967 borders.

Israeli exporters have routinely been exporting food produced on the occupied West Bank, in settler communities and on land stolen from Palestinian communities, as if it was produced within the 1967 borders.

The Guardian reports that there “may” be some measures on the way to clamp down on this abuse as well as enforcing the labelling of good produced in the West Bank.

About bloody time too.
